Goal 7: Ensure environmental sustainability

We agreed to:
- Integrate the principles of sustainable development into country policies and programmes; reverse loss of environmental resources.
- Reduce by half the proportion of people without sustainable access to safe drinking water.
- Achieve significant improvement in lives of at least 100 million slum dwellers, by 2020.
The ways we’re living are releasing unhealthy levels of gases including carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. We’re already feeling the damaging effects of this. We’re in serious danger of experiencing much worse.
There are ways to cut down on our own emissions, and demand that our governments and industry do as well.
There’s also a way of supporting others while acknowledging that - for now!- sometimes our options for getting around without damaging the environment are limited.
You can check online for ways to calculate your carbon emissions and ‘offset’ them by investing in alternative energy and energy-use reduction projects. In some cases these projects help communities meet the other Goals too.
